Gros Ventre Adventures

got a bike. Figured now is the time with mdbaby on the way.
Suzuki DR650.  Great bike so far after adjusting the carb to the higher elevations

Started at Slide Lake. Still pretty muddy but it will clear up by summer time.

Below is probably my favorite view in Wyoming. You come around a corner and all of a sudden these gorgeous buttes of what looks like clay are in front of you. Even more beautiful on a clear day but I’ll take what I can get.

Stopped for lunch at the crystal creek campground.

A delicious meal indeed.

Riding around I found this path. That once said 33% grade, but some unintelligent gun owners decided it should be a target.

Here is the bottom. It was much steeper in person. A little nerve racking for someone only riding on roads for a month.

There were some roads like this, muddy and wet that threw my back tire around quite a bit. Interesting experience learning how to control the bike.
Of course can’t have a post without the Tetons.

That’s about it. I took the pic before turning around. Hopefully I should be getting back and exploring that region next

The Dish That Needs a Name

I’d apologize about the lack of posting, but considering the only person that reads this is my mom(hi mom) I don’t think there’s much of an issue.

This dish my brother and I kind of made up back in December when we had some leftover pulled pork. Let’s get to it.

Start with your piece of pork

Image

Throw it in the crockpot after rubbing it with some seasonings(super secret). Include a little apple cider vinegar and some veggie stock. also put some onion in there.

Image

And let that cook most the day. In the end it will look like this:

Image

In the meantime, slice up some squash and jalapenos

Image

Throw those in a pot of some olive oil, and add salt, pepper, chili powder, and garlic granules. Cook those up

Image

Once those are cooked up, add a can of kidney beans and corn and cook a bit more. Once ready, scoop some of the pulled pork into the pot, add a bit more vegetable stock to get the consistency you want, and cook a bit longer.

Image

Once its all simmered and the flavors have mixed, serve with some tortillas, whiskey, and whatever else you may think you’ll need for dinner.

Image

Image

The Wyoming Whiskey is not the worst whiskey I’ve had, but its still fairly young. Good when mixed with ginger ale.

Is this a soup? Is it a chili? I’m not too sure what to call it so if someone knows feel free to comment.

Protect the bacon.

Another guns and food post! The grocery store had raw shrimp on sale so I grabbed a pound of it. I also found out today that the lady in my life has gotten her first “grownup” job, so we’re celebrating with a nice meal.

Start by peeling your shrimp

Image

While you’re doing that, chop some red potatoes and get those boiling.Image

Get the shrimp wrapped in bacon and skewered. Keep some bacon aside for the potatoes.Image

Got extra shrimp? Skewer and douse in Old Bay, the greatest spice in the world!Image

You’ll want something to baste your bacon wrapped shrimp with. We chose butter, Old Bay, pepper, and Garlic powder.Image

Once the potatoes are cooked, throw them into a bowl with some chopped bacon, paprika, salt and pepper, and mayo.Image

Get the bacon wrapped shrimp on the grill. Get them mostly cooked before basting them.Image

Once cooked and basted, pull off plate. This is what you’ll get.

And this is how your dinner table should lookImage

Grilled bacon wrapped shrimp, what I call “Chunky potato salad” since little pieces are for babies and commies, and some sliced green pepper. Serve with your favorite drink, which for me is Coors.

Don’t forget that trouble can come knocking anytime of the day, so be prepared! I am, with a G17, P238, and my favorite long gun.

Enjoy!

The simplicity of steak.

One thing I’ve learned to appreciate is all the time I spent in the kitchen with my mom and out by the grill with my dad. I work with a bunch of college students(I’m not smart enough for college) and its sad to see how little time or skill they have for cooking.

Seriously, the most difficult part of this meal was slicing the mushrooms. The toast, which is one of the few good things about Texas, took 30 seconds. The steak was cooked perfectly and took maybe 3 or 4 minutes, seasoned with sea salt and black pepper.

The meal cost me $12.

Independence day dinner

Fortunately I got off earlier in the evening than usual on Independence day. This allowed me and my bro to do some grilling.

First you make a rub on the ribs the night before.

Image

You also want to make your rolls ahead of time so there’s less to do the day of grilling.

Image

Since I still worked during the day, I had to throw the ribs in the oven wrapped in tinfoil. Here they are when they came out.

Image

Once they’re out, grill up the rest of your food.

Image

While they’re cooling, throw your ribs on and give them a coating of BBQ sauce.

Image

Plate up your food, make sure you get a good side of veggies, like corn, potato salad, and broccoli salad.
